Cable Bay Golf Resort & Spa changes name
to Oceanview Golf Resort & Spa
Cable Bay Lands Inc., owner of the proposed Cable Bay Golf Resort & Spa development in south Nanaimo, has announced plans to change its name to Oceanview Golf Resort & Spa Ltd.
The name change is accompanied by a new logo for Oceanview Golf Resort & Spa and will take effect immediately says Roger McKinnon, spokesperson for the development.
"The property has breathtaking ocean views, which is a good reason to feature it in our name," McKinnon says.
The decision to change the name is driven by marketing needs.
"The bay to the north of our property is called Cable Bay, but many Nanaimo residents don’t even know where it is, especially if they have never walked the public Cable Bay Trail that intersects our land," he says. “And, if local people don’t know where Cable Bay is, it will be harder to market the development beyond our own shores.
"Our new name should naturally attract national and international buyers and visitors to our location, stimulate tourism for the region, and complement Downtown redevelopment," says McKinnon.
He adds that many Nanaimo residents have already expressed strong interests in buying residences at the destination resort, once built.
Oceanview Golf Resort & Spa, subject to final municipal approvals, will feature a world-class 18-hole signature golf course, clubhouse and pro shop; boutique hotel and wellness spa facility; and a first-class marina with up to 600 slips. A mix of single family residences and villas, townhouses, condominiums and seniors’ housing will appeal to people in different family types, life stages, and levels of income.
The Oceanview community will have the infrastructure for walking, cycling and transit, in addition to driving.
The golf course will feature modern water preservation and recirculation methods. Only organic-based products as well as an integrated pest management system will be used on the course.
"All infrastructure services to and on the site will be paid for by the developer," says McKinnon.
Following City Council’s decision to designate the land as ‘resort centre’, Oceanview Golf Resort & Spa Ltd. has started work on a Master Plan, required by the City of Nanaimo, to articulate the long-range vision for development of the site by describing key components such as guiding principles, major land uses and densities, transportation, infrastructure, urban design, open space and parks, and development phasing.
Once the draft Master Plan has been shared with City staff and members of City Council, Nanaimo residents will have an opportunity to view the plans and provide feedback.
